A 2. 5 hour Introduction to Knitting workshop held at Cadbury Alpacas farm, a private working alpaca farm situated at the foot of the Iron Age hill fort Cadbury Camp in North Somerset. Maximum 8 students.
This workshop is held by Naomi, and is suitable for complete beginners or rusty knitters. Cadbury alpaca owner, Charlotte Brockwell, will start the workshop with a short talk on the farm, her vision, Alpaca husbandry, and fleece to yarn production. Afterwards, Naomi will take the workshop to teach a brief history of knitting before we spend the 2 hours remaining to pick up our needles and learn the basics of this ancestral craft. All students will be given 10g of Alpaca yarn, with the specific alpaca’s name it came from. The herd will be in the field next to the workshop so you can even go to see them to say thank you ! After your workshop, all students are invited to join my private Facebook group, exclusively for Naomi & Noah students, where I share a wealth of free, beginner knitting patterns specifically chosen for your standard, so that you can progress on your knitting journey. There are also a variety of video tutorials, to remind you what we have done in class. I do also run a series of classes, to take the complete beginner, to advanced beginner and intermediate standards. The workshop is held in one of the outside buildings, so please dress accordingly with sensible footwear and clothing prepared for a wonderful, rustic experience

Charlotte says:
“Currently we have over 30 alpacas and 1 llama. The vision of the farm is to promote and establish an ethical, cruelty free and sustainable fibre industry in the U.K. We’ve been farming hyuacapa and suri alpacas for 12 years. Our journey started in 2012, when we bought 3 female yearling alpacas (Molly, Daisy and Sorrell) for our small paddock as family-friendly pets and fluffy lawnmowers rolled into one. That was it …we were completely hooked! Fibre farming is not currently a recognised industry in the UK, only food producers are credited with government subsidies. Society is starting to consider where our food originates, but it’s time for us to think about where our clothes come from.
Alpaca is one of the most luxurious, environmentally friendly fibres with incredible thermo regulating properties, biodegradable, moisture wicking, hypo allergenic, lightweight, fire retardant and self cleaning.
We breed alpacas, offer interactive experiences, produce alpaca yarn, bedding, socks & accessories, toys, soap, gifts and much more. “
