A friendly, relaxed and fun workshop of maximum 6 students, to introduce you to the beautiful, mindful and ancestral craft of knitting. This is the first workshop in the beginner knitter series. The following workshops, if you choose to do them, will guide you from beginner to advanced beginner and onto intermediate level. I do limit the amount of complete beginners in the class, to ensure they get enough personal attention as they learn this new skill.
I will teach a very brief history of knitting. I will then talk about different wools and yarn weights, and how different needle sizes create different effects. I will show you samples of lacework, colour-work and cables before we quickly move on to your own hands on practise. I will teach you as a group to cast on (putting stitches onto the needles) and the two main stitches called Knit and Purl . Towards the end of the class I will teach you how to cast off, so that you can take your own piece of knitted work home as a memento. In groups that all have a bit of previous experience we may have time to move into increases and decreases to shape your work but each group is different and I tailor them on the spot to the group's standard, so nobody gets left behind.
Tea, coffee and cold drinks will be provided, as will needles and yarn to practice with. Needles are to be returned but you can take home your sample of your first knitted piece!
You will be invited to join my private Facebook knit club exclusively for my students, where I share a wealth of handy tips, free patterns and video tutorials. I am also reachable by email out of class , should you have any queries or problems with your knitting, for free of charge guidance.
Thank you for booking on to my knitting class and I look forward to seeing you very soon!
